Check of serviceability of functioning and replacement of the module of management of ignition (ICM)

CHECK

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Check serviceability of giving of food for the ignition module. Disconnect an electrical wiring from the ICM module. At the included ignition (without starting the engine) check presence of tension in the following points:
a) On the V6 models connect the voltmeter between the plug of a black-yellow wire (plug No. 2) and the mass of a body. The device has to record battery tension;

b) On 4-cylinder models it is necessary to remove a cover and the runner from the distributor, then to disconnect a black-yellow wire from the ICM module and to check presence of tension between its plug and weight at the included ignition and not started engine.

2. Check a condition of a contour of ignition and the accompanying components. If tension on ICM is absent, check a condition of an electrical wiring on the site of a chain between the module and the switch of ignition (see the Head Onboard electric equipment). First of all it is always necessary to check a condition of safety locks of the switch of ignition No. No. 41 (on 100 A) and 42 (on 50 A) in the assembly block of relays/safety locks located under a cowl. Also check a safety lock No. 6 (on 15 A) in the assembly block under the car dashboard. Attentively investigate an electric contour and make sure that the switch of ignition provides giving of food on ICM at turn of a key in position of ON. In case of need address schemes of electric connections.
3. Make sure of serviceability of giving of power supply from the ignition coil on ICM. At the included ignition (do not start the engine) make sure available tension between white-black (4-cylinder VTEC engines) / white-blue (4-cylinder engines without VTEC) / a blue (V6 engines) wire and mass of a body. Battery tension has to take place.
4. If tension is absent, check a chain on the site between the corresponding wire and the coil. Also check coil windings (plugs A and B on 4-cylinder engines and plugs 1 and 3 on V6 engines) for existence of internal breaks (see the Section Check of a State and Replacement of the Coil of Ignition).
5. If the coil and an electrical wiring of a chain as it should be, and sparking is absent, replace ICM.

REPLACEMENT

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that you have the correct combination for input of the audio system in action!


2. Uncover with the distributor and (at the corresponding complete set) the filter (see the Head Nastroyki and routine maintenance).
3. Disunite all electric sockets on ICM.
4. Turn out two fixing screws from the ICM case and remove the module, having pulled it outside.

5. Installation is made upside-down.
